Smartsburg -- Silas Grantham Maxwell, age 76, died at his home in Smartsburg Thurs morning at 1 o'clock following an illness of two years. Mr. Maxwell suffered an attack of influenza two years ago from which complications developed that caused his death. Mrs. Maxwell was born on Jan 22, 1855 near Salem in Washington County, a son of Caswell and Mary Maxwell. he was the oldest of a famaily of 14 children. On Oct 25, 1910 he was united in marriage to Malissa Mastin, who survives him. He was a member of the Smartsburg Christian Church. in addition to his widow Mr. Maxwell is survived by one stepson, Claude Mastin, of Bellingham, Wash, two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Steffler of Anderson, Mrs. Hattie M. Lytle of Downey, ia; five brothers, Alec of Darlington, George of this place, Jacob of Anderson, Ed of Thorntown and Thomas of Crawfordsville and several nieces and nephews.
